Statement Of Intent
Product 1: My first product is a three minute music
video, for the pop song ‘Hold My Girl’ by George Ezra. I chose this song as it
fits the brief of a love song representing at least two different social groups
due to the main theme of happiness and connection with others. The main focus
of my music video will be my artist as the video is a performance piece rather
than a narrative piece, the aim is to represent love and the locations I have
chosen are meant to be symbolic of the place that my fictional artist grew up
in and thus focuses on a love for where you came from and moving on to become
your own person and discover new experiences which relates to the required target audience of ages 16-25 as
this is when people want to feel the most free and independent. The brief
also requires ‘a fictional band/artist signed to Warner Music Group', my artist
is a male singer called Cole Robinson whose main ideology is based on loving
yourself and those around you, his presence in the music video represents the feeling of attachment/love of familiarity as he is seen performing in the area he grew up in. My secondary character is an unnamed female character who represents freedom and new experiences as she can be seen walking freely through the forest. Her relationship with my fictional artist is not explained, the reason for this is because I want the audience to decide for themselves how they are linked as this prompts more creative thinking from the audience and also helps to relate the video to their own lives/personal experiences. The video will use a range of media techniques
to cover all necessary criteria I will use camera angles such as opening
close-up and wide shots of my character to engage the viewer. The mise-en-scene
of the video needs to feel natural so the filming locations are across a very
rural area and the editing of the video in regard to special effects will be
minimal to maintain the natural look of the landscape and to avoid any unwanted
over the top effects. I will use text at the beginning of the video to display
the title and artists name. I aim to create an original music video highlighting
the feeling of love and acceptance as well as the enticing aspects of new experiences and freedom.
Product 2: My second product is a website which will include at least two pages – one home page and one linked page which will promote my own fictional artist Cole Robinson. It will include an original title and logo, a minimum of two images that are unrelated to the music video, a menu bar, information about the artist, an additional interview video, and evidence of several media language techniques being used. My artists name will be used for the title of the page and I will include links to their social media accounts and music apps such as (Instagram and Spotify). I will make it easy for my audience to navigate the website as there will be clear buttons labelling each page. On the homepage I will aim to include tour information and information about the artist to engage the audience as soon as they open the page. Pages for merchandise and also photographs will be available and clearly labelled to ensure a user-friendly experience. A second smaller video is embedded in the page which is a short interview with my fictional artist about his inspiration and is filmed in a more casual setting. Overall my website will be a clear guide to what my artist is like and what they stand for.
My two products will be connected in several ways. Firstly, the video will have links to the website and social media and the website will promote the video, doing this will raise the awareness of my artist over several platforms. Secondly, I will use images and clips from the filming of the music video on the website to interest viewers with additional information about the video. Additionally, merchandise related to the music video will be available on the website and an email sign up will lead to viewers receiving updates about my artist whilst gaining additional fans. Overall, my products intend to use as many different possible forms of media to create a successful network for my artist to be involved with and gain a following whilst also following the guide and completing all the criteria.
One problem I encountered when editing was that I was unable to remove the watermark from my video, because of this a faint watermark is visible in the centre of the screen, as well as this because I took the footage for my video on my phone it becomes slightly delayed when played at full screen so watching the video on the size it is embedded in my website is the most ideal whilst also remaining easy enough to see to not cause any problems.
From the link below you can access my finished website as well as my music video which is embedded on the first page of the website.
