Hold My Girl - George Ezra
"Hold My Girl" is a song by British singer and songwriter, George Ezra. the song was released on the 26th September 2018 and is part of the album "Staying at Tamara's"
The songs lyrics suggest that George Ezra is trying to console a girl that is having a hard time, he wants to be her pillar of support and help her out of a hard time. He continues to show support however neglects himself and he slowly 'drowns' under the stress.
Music Video
The video begins with a big close-up on Ezra's face where he has a neutral expression, he is sat in a small cabin when clear water begins to pour in under the door. The camera begins to pan around the room following Ezra as the water rapidly fills the room.
He continues to look directly into the camera and sing the calm song in a tense situation, he is forced to begin climbing the furniture when water starts to rise. At this point the situation continues to grow problematic as he falls into the water and is trapped and the emotion in his voice becomes more panicked and pressured.
The video ends with Ezra being pushed to the roof and without any escape quietly drifts down into the water as the camera pans away to a fading lamp. The room at this point is fully submerged and many objects are suspended in the water.
The connotations of this video is that he is trying to be there for someone he cares about but feels like he is falling beneath the surface because as hard as he tries he cannot help, the water represents the panic and helplessness and no matter how far he climbs he cannot escape it.What Inspires Me?
The main part of this music video which inspires me is the unique meaning behind each piece of the setting, like suggested before the water is the panic and helplessness that Ezra faces and the room he is in represents his mind which is inescapable and people can feel drowned in their thoughts.
